Bam Margera Arrested for Domestic Violence, Legal Separation From Estranged Wife
Bam Margera, the 43-year-old star of the hit MTV show Jackass, was arrested last Thursday for domestic violence after allegedly kicking a woman during a heated dispute at a home in Escondido, California.[0] According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the woman told deputies that Margera had kicked her and he was subsequently arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a charge of corporal injury on a current or former spouse, cohabitant, dating partner or fellow parent.[1] After posting $50,000 bail, he was released from custody.[1]
The arrest comes amid a tumultuous period in Margera’s personal life.[2] In February 2023, his wife of nine years, Nicole “Nikki” Boyd, filed for legal separation, claiming he was continuing to abuse drugs and alcohol and behaving inappropriately around their five-year-old son Phoenix Wolf.[3] Boyd’s lawyer, David Glass, said that Nikki felt compelled to file for legal separation from her husband due to his “continuing drug and alcohol abuse, erratic behavior, and due to his failure to provide support for her and their son.”[4]
Margera has struggled with alcoholism and substance abuse since the mid-2000s. In the summer of 2020, he publicly declared his sobriety and checked himself into rehab, but he later escaped the facility and was reportedly drunk at a bar in Atlanta in September.[3] Since then, there have been no updates about his sobriety.[3]
The San Diego County District Attorney’s office has stated that they won’t file charges from their office, though it’s unclear if charges will be filed elsewhere.[5] Margera’s estranged wife, Nikki Boyd, has requested both legal and physical custody of their son, in addition to child support, and the pair are currently in the process of legally separating.[6]
