Experience the Thrilling Return of DCI John Luther in ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’

Idris Elba is back as DCI John Luther in the new feature length film, Luther: The Fallen Sun.[0] In this continuation of the award-winning television saga, Luther is disgraced and behind bars, having been wrongfully convicted of corruption and other crimes, when a gruesome serial killer terrorizes London.[1] Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.[2]

This time out, the detective teams up with a fellow DCI, Odette Raine (Cynthia Erivo), and his old mentor and friend Detective Superintendent Schenk (Dermot Crowley) comes out of retirement to give advice.[3] The villain is the unhinged former city trader and cyber psychopath David Robey (Andy Serkis), who has an infinite arsenal of resources and is determined to outwit Luther.[4]

The Fallen Sun is a thrilling and intense addition to the Luther series.[5] Elba is as engaging as ever, and the supporting cast is equally strong, including Erivo and Serkis.[6] This film is surprisingly grounded, with a Dover ferry being the most exotic locale, and its ambitions are big enough to warrant its two-hour runtime.[7] It is a perfect send-off for the series if this is the end, and a great introduction to Luther if you are unfamiliar with the character.

Luther: The Fallen Sun is in select cinemas from Friday and on Netflix from March 10.[8] It is rated R for disturbing/violent content, language and some sexual material.[9] Written by Neil Cross and directed by Jamie Payne, this is a must-watch for fans of the detective series.
