Hulu’s ‘History of the World, Part II’ Pokes Fun at Human History with Mel Brooks & All-Star Cast

Mel Brooks' classic film, History of the World, Part I, is finally getting the follow-up it deserves with History of the World, Part II.[0] After waiting over 40 years, the sequel series is set to debut on Hulu next week with 8 episodes that take viewers through different periods of human history.[1] The series stars Mel Brooks, Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, and Ike Barinholtz, along with an all-star lineup of guest stars, including Josh Gad, Johnny Knoxville, Sarah Silverman, Taika Waititi, and many more.[2]

The series is a collaboration between Brooks, producer David Stassen (The Mindy Project, Blockers), and co-writers and stars Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and Ike Barinholtz. Each episode features a variety of sketches that poke fun at different periods of human history.[3] Kroll, Sykes, and Barinholtz portray Judas, Ulysses S. Grant, and Shirley Chisholm, respectively.[4] Other sketches include the Russian Revolution and Johnny Knoxville's turn as Rasputin in “Jackrasp.”[4]

Mel Brooks is a writer and executive producer on the series, along with Kroll, Sykes, Barinholtz, and David Stassen. Kevin Salter and Christie Smith serve as executive producers.[2] The 8-episode season was directed by Alice Mathias, David Stassen, Nick Kroll and Lance Bangs.[2] “History of the World, Part II” is a joint production between Searchlight Television and 20th Television.[2]
