{"id":297,"date":"2023-05-04T23:02:59","date_gmt":"2023-05-05T04:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wursthausdtsa.com\/ed-sheeran-wins-copyright-lawsuit-over-marvin-gayes-lets-get-it-on\/"},"modified":"2023-05-04T23:02:59","modified_gmt":"2023-05-05T04:02:59","slug":"ed-sheeran-wins-copyright-lawsuit-over-marvin-gayes-lets-get-it-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wursthausdtsa.com\/ed-sheeran-wins-copyright-lawsuit-over-marvin-gayes-lets-get-it-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Ed Sheeran Wins Copyright Lawsuit Over Marvin Gaye&#8217;s &#8220;Let&#8217;s Get It On"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has won a copyright lawsuit in New York City after a civil jury found him not liable for copying Marvin Gaye\u2019s \u201cLet\u2019s Get It On\u201d in his hit song \u201cThinking Out Loud.\u201d The lawsuit had been brought by the heirs of Ed Townsend, who co-wrote \u201cLet\u2019s Get It On\u201d with Gaye.<sup id=\"cite_ref1-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"#cite_note1-0\">[0]<\/a><\/sup> Sheeran had attended the eight-day trial, even performing snippets of various songs for jurors to demonstrate that he was more inspired by Van Morrison than Gaye\u2019s R&#038;B classic.<sup id=\"cite_ref1-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"#cite_note1-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> Speaking outside the court after winning the case, Sheeran said: \u201cI\u2019m just a guy with a guitar who loves writing music for people to enjoy.<sup id=\"cite_ref1-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"#cite_note1-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> I am not, and will never allow myself to be, a piggybank for anyone to shake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time Sheeran has faced such allegations.<sup id=\"cite_ref1-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"#cite_note1-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> In 2017, a London court ruled in his favour in a similar case involving his song \u201cShape of You.\u201d Gaye\u2019s family has also previously sued other artists, including Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, for copyright infringement, winning a $5.3m judgment in 2015 for their use of Gaye\u2019s \u201cGot to Give It Up\u201d in their hit \u201cBlurred Lines.<sup id=\"cite_ref1-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"#cite_note1-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"cite_note1-0\">0. <\/span>&#8220;After win, Ed Sheeran slams &#8216;baseless' and &#8216;dangerous' copyright case&#8221;
