Tyra Banks Leaves Dancing With the Stars to Focus on Business & Entrepreneurial Ventures
On Thursday, March 16th, Tyra Banks announced that she is leaving Dancing With the Stars after three seasons as host.[0] She stated that this is to focus on her business and entrepreneurship. Banks first joined the show in 2020, Season 29, replacing longtime host Tom Bergeron.[1] She held the position of executive producer as well.[2] Banks was joined by “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star Alfonso Ribiero to host the show in fall 2020.[3]
Since the early 2000s, Banks has honed her hosting skills.[4] She was a co-host of America's Got Talent on the show's 12th season, the host of The Tyra Banks Show and was the creator of America's Next Top Model.[5] She said in a statement at the time of joining the show, “I’ve been a fan of DWTS since its beginning … The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances … it's always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk.”[2]
Speaking with People Magazine, Banks said, “Dancing with the Stars is one of the biggest shows on TV, with a huge audience, and I really respect that.”[6]
Although no official statement has been made, it is anticipated that Disney+ will renew the show “Dancing With The Stars” for another season. In the last year, the show has experienced various transformations; Judge Len Goodman declared his departure from the series, and pros Cheryl Burke and Mark Ballas also declared their retirement from their Danskins roles.[7]
The presenter shared that she has been putting her energy into her ice cream venture, SMiZE & Dream, which was established in 2021.[8] She told TMZ, “I’m really focused on business, like crazy focused.”[9]
It is anticipated that the 32nd season of DWTS will be broadcast on Disney+ later in the year. Mark Ballas, Len Goodman, and Cheryl Burke will no longer appear.[10] Banks’ departure from the show marks the end of an era for the competition series, which has been around since 2005.
