Farewell to “Succession:” Season 4 is the Final Season
The start of the new year brought some sad news for fans of HBO’s hit show “Succession” as creator Jesse Armstrong revealed that the upcoming fourth season would be the last.[0] Armstrong told The New Yorker, “You know, there’s a promise in the title of Succession. I’ve never thought this could go on forever.”[1]
The show follows the Roy family, a dynastic clan helmed by media mogul Logan Roy, played by Brian Cox. His children — Shiv (Sarah Snook), Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin) — battle it out for control of the family’s media empire.[1] The series also stars Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, Alan Ruck, Rob Yang, Dagmara Domińczyk, Arian Moayed, J. Smith-Cameron, Justine Lupe, David Rasche, and Fisher Stevens.[2]
Annabeth Gish, Adam Godley, Eili Harboe, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson have been added to the cast of Season[3] The trailer depicts the Roy siblings preparing for battle against their father as they attempt to thwart the sale to GoJo.[4] Meanwhile, Tom finds himself in the crosshairs of the battle with his trusty sidekick, Cousin Greg as he deals with the aftermath of turning against Shiv.[4] Additionally, Connor Roy moves one step closer to his wedding.[4]
The fourth season of the show debuts on March 26 on HBO and HBO[5] Armstrong said he and his fellow writers discussed various scenarios for the future of the show and ultimately decided that the fourth season should be the last.[6] “I like operating the writing room by coming in with a sort of proposition, and then being genuinely open to alternative ways of going. And the decision to end solidified through the writing and even when we started filming: I said to the cast, ‘I’m not a hundred per cent sure, but I think this is it.’”[7]
