Tom Sizemore, Iconic Actor in ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and ‘Natural Born Killers’, Passes Away at 61

Tom Sizemore, an actor best known for his roles in films such as Saving Private Ryan and Natural Born Killers, passed away on Friday, March 3rd, after being taken off life support.[0] He was sixty[1]

Sizemore’s manager, Charles Lago, released a statement to Variety, confirming the actor’s death and saying: “It is with great sadness and sorrow I have to announce that actor Thomas Edward Sizemore (‘Tom Sizemore’) aged 61 passed away peacefully in his sleep today at St Joseph’s Hospital Burbank. His brother Paul and twin boys Jayden and Jagger (17) were at his side.”[2]

Throughout his life, Sizemore had issues with substance abuse and domestic abuse, and was the subject of a sexual assault lawsuit.[2] On February 18th, Sizemore suffered a brain aneurysm that left him in critical condition.[0] After doctors informed his family that there was no further hope, the decision was made to take him off of life support.[3]

Sizemore’s manager, Charles Lago, said: “I am very saddened by the loss of not only a client but a great friend and mentor of almost 15 years. Tom was one of the most sincere, kind and generous human beings I have had the pleasure of knowing. His courage and determination through adversity was always an inspiration to me. The past couple of years were great for him and he was getting his life back to a great place. He loved his sons and his family. I will miss my friend Tom Sizemore greatly.”[1]

Sizemore is survived by his two sons, Jagger and Jayden, whom he shared with his ex Janelle McIntire.[4]

Throughout his career, Sizemore worked with many high-profile directors, including Michael Mann, Martin Scorsese, Peter Hyams, Carl Franklin, Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott, and Michael Bay.[5] His breakout role came in 1998’s Saving Private Ryan, in which he played Technical Sergeant Mike Horvath.[5] He was also the recipient of a Screen Actors Guild nomination for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.[0]
